Nusantara Capital of Indonesia

The first president and also founding father of Indonesia “Sukarno” had envisioned a capital outside of Java in part as a development countermagnet. Sixty-five years later, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo is finally preparing to deliver the vision of Indonesian founding father, now the House of Representatives approved the passage of Jokowi’s bill for the establishment of the future capital city “Nusantara”.
Greater Jakarta, home to more then 20 million people, is one of the world’s oldest urban areas, struggling with the weight worsening traffic congestion, bad air quality and annual flooding due of economic growth of the country, and is the fastest sinking population center in Southeast Asia.

Nusantara City is the new Capital of Indonesia and Gateway of East Kalimantan to the rain forest jungle of Borneo island. The New Capital is build in between Balikpapan and Samarinda city as a future green smart city which comply with the modernity of the century. The design of the Indonesian Capital will be integrated in the jungle of Borneo as the only Rain Forest city in the world. The complete green energy from solar, wind and hydro source will scoop with the climate change problems. The futuristic design of local culture, forest, in combination of a smart city will let grown the tourism industry of Kalimantan and Borneo Island as a whole, connected with International airport flight routes, but more-over with Samarinda city and the major Mahakam River as the tourist high way connection to the deep dark Jungle flush land of the Dayak tribes and Orangutan forest.

The New Capital will be built in the largely undeveloped area of the two regencies called Kutai Kartanegara and Penajam Paser Utara in the region of East Kalimantan. City is slated to be ready to move the central government from Jakarta to Nusantara City in 2024, and in later state the foreign embassies, local urban clusters, and tourism facilities, to be totaly finished by 2045, which then will cover around 256,000 hectares - that's four times the size of Jakarta and slightly bigger then Singapore.

Nusantara means Archipelago in Bahasa Indonesia language, and was also the name of the old Kutai Regency of East Kalimantan in the Dutch Colonial period, which now becomes the new capital of the country, as also being the middle point of the archipelago of Indonesia

Sungai Wain & Sunbear Rehabilitation with an education center
Sungai Wain is an conservation area, with swamp and mangrove forest, home to orangutans, and sunbears. The Sun bear as the mascot of Balikpapan City, is a threatened animal now-a-days, and lost about 30% of its population over the last 20 years at Borneo. The Rehabilitation center at 28 kilometers from Balikpapan, is an few hectares of forest where up to five sun bears can be rehabilitated in a natural habitat, beside the Rehabilitation center there is an education center to learn more about the sun bears and their nature instincts.

Black River ( Sungai Hitam )
Located about 35 kilometers from Balikpapan, a small River called Sungai Hitam, or Black River, with lowland and mangrove forest, which streams into the Balikpapan bay. The area covereved with forest, is home to wildlife creatures as the proboscis species, only found at Borneo. Birdwatchers will enjoy the mangove bird life here with kingfishers during your pleasant canoeing tour at the black river, from where you can spot the animal wildlife species, including monekys lizards and birds while the mangove forest along the river bank pass away.

Bukit Bangkirai Hard wooden hill forest
A 10.000 hectares of hardwooden trees of the Bankirai species, at a hill-top located about 38 kilometers from Balikpapan City on the way to Samarinda. The Tree-top bridge hanging about 40 meters high in the trees give you a beautiful view over East Kalimantan Rain forest hills.

Mahakam Delta & Samarinda

Samarinda is surrounded by rivers. The Karangmumus flows to the east of the town, the Karangasem river streams from the west which mouth in the Mahakam river, those rivers serving Samarinda as avenues for transportation. Noisy motorboats still cruise the Mahakam river up and down as water taxis to connect both sides of the city while recently 3 bridges connecting the river bank population of Samarinda Kota and Samarinda Seberang.
