The Great Mahakam River cascade down from the Muller Mountains of Indonesia East Kalimantan Province. The river highway attract tourists who wants to travel into the jungle regions, and visit the traditional living Dayak tribes, once headhunters, who still live in communal hard wooden houses called "Longhouses". The more then 200 Dayak Tribes in the Hinterland of East Borneo have still kept their original culture, influenced by the kaharingan supernatural of spirits religion. Kutai Park is home to wild orangutans, which can be spotted in their jungle habitat at Borneo

Day 01: BALIKPAPAN, SAMARINDA, MAHAKAM (LD)
Upon arrival at Balikpapan airport, meeting service and transfer to Loa Janan, to board houseboat for exciting adventure on Mahakam river. Meals provided and overnight on houseboat.

Day 02: MUARA MUNTAI, MANCONG, TANJUNG ISUY,MUARA PAHU (BLD)
Short sight seeing at Muara Muntai Wooden village, then crossing Jempang Lake by motor canoe to Mancong. During the cruise you could see Rain forest and wildlife at Ohong creek like monkey’s and birds, Upon arrival at Mancong, welcomed with a traditional ceremony by the Dayaq Benuaq, one of the Oldest Dayak Longhouse of East Kalimantan can be found here, Late afternoon by motor canoe to Tanjung Isuy for sightseeing and continue to Houseboat for dinner and overnight. Houseboat will cruise up to Muara Pahu.

Day 03: MUARA PAHU, KEDANG PAHU RIVER, MOUNT BAYAN, TERBISAK, DOWNSTREAM (BLD)
Arrive at Muara Pahu, cruise upstream the Kedang Pahu River by canoe for more then one hour by canoe to Mount Bayan to visit Terbisak Dayak village known of it’s Longhouse of the Benauq Dayak tribe which is still habituated by about 100 Dayak people living in their community house, and traditions of dry rise fielding and hunting, continue downstream by canoe, along the river bank, we will enjoy the exotic nature and wildlife as otters, leaf monkeys, endangered roboscis monkeys and birds, before we move to the delta of the Belowan river as a black water peat swamp forest land, with opportunities to spot the fresh water dolphins in the colliding stream of the Kedang Pahu and the Bolowan River. Afternoon, return to houseboat for return downstream to Tenggarong.

Day 04: TENGGARONG, SANGATTA, KUTAI NATIONAL PARK (BLD)
Early in the morning downstream by houseboat to Tenggarong. Arrive at Tenggarong, visiting the former palace of Sultan Kutai Kertanegara. Where you will see the Sultan impressive collection of heirlooms, ceramics, Dayak art and culture items. Afterwards by car to Sangatta village, cruising up Sangatta River by motorcanoe into the jungle of Kutai National Park. Upon Arrival at Morio Jungle Lodge at the riverbank in the rainforest, we will drop our stuff and direct start a jungle trek into the forest, looking for wild life and Orang Utans, which are completely wild. Lunch on the way, Dinner and overnight at Morio Jungle Lodge, hearing the sounds of the forest by night.

Day 05: SANGATTA, KUTAI NATIONAL PARK, BALIKPAPAN (BL)
Early in the morning another forest trek at Kutai National Park searching for wild life and orangutans, experiencing the beauty of the flora & fauna of the Rainforest. Afterwards by car to Balikpapan airport for your flight to your next destination.


Mahakam River Facts

Mahakam River is a highway of East Kalimantan Province, which can be reached via the main airport Balikpapan, or the local airport Samarinda. The River is almost 1.000km long, and the only way to bring you into the deep interior of East Kalimantan. The main attraction of the lower part are the Lakes, The art full Dayak Culture and Longhouses, the area is covered by mangrove, swamp, and lowland rain forest. The Tourism spots are the Villages and river life. Wildlife which can be expected are proboscis Monkeys, Fresh Water dolphins, and lots of birds. Kutai Park with it’s lowland forest, is home to wild Orangutans, while never can be a guaranty, the chance to spot Orangutans is quite high (99%)

Mahakam River & Kutai Park Accommodation
Mahakam River has poor accommodation facilities at the villages, The houseboat with Indonesian Styled accommodation as the standard with cold water shower but airconditioned sleeping cabin, will cruise you slowly through the hinterland, enjoying the scenery along the river sliding away. The Lodge at Kutai Park, is a simple wooden building, with separated shared cold water bathroom, Electric at Kutai Park is only available from 6pm till 10pm
