Jungle of Kayan Mentarang
Kayan
Mentarang Park Area is one of the most Isolated regions of
North Kalimantan
and a part of The Hearth of Indonesia
Borneo Island. Traditional Dayak Tribes, with a wealth of ecological
and cultural treasures that survive deep within the rain forest jungle.
The
area covers the upper course of the Sesayap and
Mentarang River which lead you after a long trekking through
the highlands and clouded rain forest to the Krayan Area near the
Malaysian Border of Sabah. The flora in
it’s vicinity of Kayan Mentarang Nature Reserve as a
protected Cloud Rain Forest area of about 1.600.000
hectares are
more then thousand years old. However, there are more attractions
then dense jungle only at the highland
plateau between 900 and 1,700 meters above sea level.
The valleys, and flowers, including the black orchid, and
rhododendrons species in the dense forest, not to forget the caves and
stone shaped burial sides.
The
traditional Dayak Tribes of the area are the Dayak
Punan, Dayak Sa'baan and Lun Dayeh.
From the Highlands of this Kalimantan part, with it's cloud rain forest
you will have a amazing view through the trees which are
all around and will
give you a feeling of natural freedom when you over-see the valuable
forest of
Borneo.
