Marabahan
Barito River Jungle Adventure
Tours
Marabahan
is the capital of the Barito Kuala regency. This town lies at the side
of the Barito river and can be reached in four hours from Banjarmasin.
Marabahan
area is unique for trekking as it has several villages connected
by trails that lead through mostly virgin forest. You can stay
overnight in the villages. The people
in the villages are self sufficient, producing all their own
food and
supplementing their diet through hunting. Hunting is with either
home-made rifles or packs of dogs and spears. While they have more than
enough food and fairly good houses, money is difficult to come by as
they are isolated from markets. Everyone is in unanimous agreement for
the area's forests to be protected and for more tourists to arrive.
