Explore the virgin Diversity of Borneo
This is not an explored tourist destination yet, an unknown place where nature's diversity is clearly visible through its rich populations of rare plants and animals. You can find species like the Bornean orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus mario), the white-handed gibbon (Hilobates moulleri), the sun bear (Helarctos malayanus), the proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus), and a wide variety of plants such as ironwood (Eusideroxylon zwagerii), bangkirai (Shorea laevis), agatis (Agathis), kapur (Dryobalanops sp), kruing (Dyptherocarpus confertus), rattan (Calamus sp), forest durian (Durio), and forest rambutan (Cuponiopsis sp).
The Mangkaliat karst mountain range, located in this region known as the "nose of Borneo," is home to unique species of flora and fauna.
It has been officially recognized as a protected rainforest area due to the presence of numerous rare species that require conservation efforts.
The Dayak Basap tribe, known for their cave-dwelling lifestyle, continue to live in traditional ways such as hunting, fishing, dry farming, and harvesting honey and bird nests from the limestone jungles of the Mangkaliat mountains.
The region's biodiversity remains untouched and pristine because of the limited accessibility to the outside world, which has helped preserve its natural state until today.
The ecological richness of Teluk Sumbang is immense.
It features crystal-clear waters ideal for snorkeling and diving, as well as dense rainforests that house the wildlife of the Mangkaliat mountain range.
