These islands are an important part of the Borneo Orangutan Survival (BOSF) Nyaru Menteng Rehabilitation Center, which is dedicated to the care and recovery of orangutans. The orangutans living on these islands are in the final stage of their rehabilitation process, preparing to return to their natural habitat in the wild jungle.
In addition to the wildlife experience, visitors can also immerse themselves in the rich traditional Dayak culture. The Tumbang Malahoi Longhouse, located in the Rungan district, is a remarkable example of this cultural heritage. This longhouse is quite long, stretching over 30 meters, and its walls are made from tree bark, giving it a unique and authentic appearance that reflects the traditional building techniques of the Dayak people. In front of the longhouse, there is a sandang statue, which is a significant cultural symbol and adds to the overall atmosphere of the site.
