Pangkalanbun Kalimantan
Pangkalabun, as the starting point for an Orangutan tour within Tanjung Puting National Park, which is situated in the western region of Central Kalimantan. These days, Pangkalabun has grown into a lively little town, acting as a key hub for both land and river transportation through the region. It is a place where travelers moving from West Kalimantan to East Kalimantan, as well as those heading to Java Island, pass through. In Pangkalabun, there is an old palace that dates back over two centuries. This palace is crafted from ironwood and is a significant reminder of the royal heritage of the Banjar people in Central Kalimantan. Inside the palace, you can find various historical items such as oars, jewelry, musical instruments, weapons, the royal standard, traditional costumes, and many other artifacts that are over a hundred years old.
Another notable landmark in Pangkalabun is the Mosque of Kyai Gede, which is the oldest mosque in the area, with a history of more than 300 years.
Tanjung Puting National Park is a well-known destination for both international and local tourists, recognized as a nature and wildlife reserve that features lowland and swamp forests. These forests are home to a variety of primates, including orangutans, owa-owa, bekantan, and others.
Birdwatchers can enjoy spotting various bird species at Danau Burung, or Bird Lake, located in the Sungai Buluh area.
The southern part of Tanjung Puting National Park is a coastal region that overlooks the Java Sea and is known for hosting rare turtle species. In contrast, the northern part of the park is along the Kumai River, where the scenery is incredibly beautiful and scenic. A popular spot for camping within the wildlife reserve is Tanjungkubu, which offers a pleasant and beautiful environment around it.
