Sebangau Park Orangutan Wildlife
To the west of Palangkaraya, Sebangau National Park is situated around a river that shares its name. This river is dark in color due to the accumulation of decaying plant matter. The park was established in 2004 as a sustainable forest initiative, with the support of eco-tourism activities. It has become a significant research site, especially because of its large population of orangutans, as well as agile gibbons and various other wildlife species. Although the park is not very far from Palangkaraya, it is not an easy place to reach, and visiting it requires some level of expertise and knowledge. The World Wildlife Fund (WWF) has built accommodation facilities for research purposes, which are also available for visitors. These facilities will play an important role in supporting the development of eco-tourism within the park in the coming years.
