KAHAYAN
JUNGLE EXPEDITION

01;
ARRIVAL IN PALANGKARAYA (D)
Upon
your arrival by morning flight at Cilik Riwut Airport of
Palangkaraya, meeting service and transfer to Rambang boat terminal
where we start the trip for about 6 hours by speedboat to Tewah, lunch
enroute, overnight at Losmen.

02;
TEWAH, TUBANG KORIK (BLD)
After
breakfast transfer by motor canoe to Tubang Korik via Tubang
Miri. Afternoon reach Tubang Korik, short sightseeing of the village or
explore the forest. Accommodation and meals at longhouse.
Day
03;
TUBANG KORIK, TEWAH (BLD)
After
breakfast, by motor canoe return to Tewah. On the way we might
stop at Batusuli Hillstone to enjoy the jungle panorama at the top of
the mountain. Lunch enroute, overnight at Losmen.
Day
04;
TEWAH, PALANGKARAYA (BLD)
After
breakfast transfer by speedboat to Palangkaraya. Upon arrival at
Palangkaraya, transfer to hotel for accommodation & meals.

05;
PALANGKARAYA, DEPARTURE (B)
Breakfast
at hotel, free at own leisure until the time for transfer to
Airport or by overland to the next destination.

PALANGKARAYA ARRIVAL, TUMBANG
MALAHOI, (LD)
Upon
arrival at Cilik Riwut Airport of Palangkaraya, meeting service
and transfer to Tangkiling harbor, to cruise upstream Rungan River by
speedboat for about 5 hours to Tumbang Juluh village, from where we
continue by car to Tumbang Malahoi. Meals enroute overnight at
longhouse.

TUMBANG MALAHOI, TUMBANG MAPOT, (BLD)
In
the
morning sight seeing of the village before we cruise by motor
canoe to Tumbang Mapot, during the trip you can enjoy the impressive
jungle panorama. Meals enroute, overnight at local house.

03
& 04; TUMBANG MAPOT, HUNTING,
(BLD)
Early
morning after breakfast, whole day trek and explore the prime
rainforest, late evening return to the village for overnight.

05;
TUMBANG MALAHOI, PALANGKARAYA, (BLD)
After
breakfast by car to Tumbang Juluh, afterwards continue by
speedboat downstream to Tangkiling harbor, from where we can drive to
Palangkaraya and check-in at hotel for overnight.

After
breakfast, free at leisure until the time for your departure
flight.

rivers rarely seen by tourists. Glimpse orangutans in their natural
habitat and experience the traditional lifestyles of the Dayak
riverside villages.
Day
1 :
PALANGKARAYA, RUNGAN RIVER (D)
Arrive
direct from Jakarta and transfer to your comfortable cabin in
the Rahai’i Pangun. Relax on the viewing deck for a welcoming
drink and begin your journey along the forest lined rivers. Steaming
through Palangkaraya city and its original boardwalk villages on the
river edge, we proceed to the Rungan River.

2:
DANAU TAHAI, ORANGUTAN REHABILITAION
CENTER, SEI
GOHONG (BLD)
From
the peaceful overnight mooring, we continue along a beautiful
stretch of river, perfect reflections in the water, quiet fishing
activities, and glimpses of bird life and animal life in the verdant
jungle. Stop at the Danau Tahai blackwater lake, and leave the boat for
an optional visit to the Borneo Orangutan Survival Rehabilitation
Centre, where, in the education centre, guests will be shown a
presentation of their program, and witness a group of the orphaned
babies they are rehabilitating to the wild. We continue on the boat,
enjoying sunset over the river. Our mooring will be at Sei Gohong, a
small traditional village.
Day
3:
MOUNT TANGKILING, RUNGAN RIVER (BLD)
At
dawn, the energetic can climb nearby Mt Tangkiling. From the summit,
watch the forest mist gradually thin out to reveal the sleepy hamlet
and the river glistening among the trees.
Return to the boat for another delicious fresh brewed coffee and
breakfast, as we continue up the Rungan. Watch out for orangutans,
macaques, elusive proboscis monkeys, gibbons and langurs, as well as
the dramatic birdlife – gliding fish eagles and the curious
hornbills.
We continue to a traditional village for a Dayak welcoming ceremony. Be
their honored guest as they introduce many of their livelihood
activities, from hulling rice, to carving their machete handles,
weaving rattan mats and bags, to building canoes and drying fish.
Stroll through their village to see traditional fruits and products of
the forest, including the famed durian and rare and expensive perfume
vine. Our quiet mooring is adjacent a blackwater lake. Leave the boat
in the evening by canoe, and quietly enter the lakes, using the
torchlight to spot nocturnal animals.

4:
TUMBANG JUTUH, TUMBANG MALAHOI (BLD)
Early
morning, join local fisher folk in the nearby black water lake,
watch and join in with their fishing practices and canoeing skills.
Optional fishing excursion. Rejoin the boat and continue on up the
river, past long sandy stretches as the river curls its away towards
the hills to reach the local centre of Tumbang Jutuh. An optional trip
goes a short distance by road to the traditional longhouse village of
Tumbang Malahoi. Experience the traditional mountain Dayak way of life
in these stilted extended family homes. The village has excellent
examples of sapundu, or carved totem poles and sandung, traditional
bone houses. Find out about the Dayak faith, Kaharingan, and visit a
Temple in the village. Rejoin the boat for the final evening under the
stars.

5:
TANGKILING, KALIMANTAN MEETING CENTER
(B)
Return
down river to Tangkiling, where you will be collected for the
return journey to Jakarta, or to join other tours. Other options
include a swim, massage and comfortable night in the Kalimantan Meeting
Centre (additional cost) before your return to the urban jungle.

from Jakarta and embark on an exciting speedboat trip up the
Rungan River to Tumbang Malahoi and its longhouse.

TEWAH, BATU BANAMA, KAYAHAN RIVER

Spend
the morning exploring the village and meeting the people Later
continue by road to Tewah, taking a detour to Batu Banama, the holy
rocky outcrop on the Kahayan River. Stay overnight in Tewah.

3:
TUMBANG ANOI, TUMBANG KORIK (BLD)
Continue
journey by klotok, or river canoe to Tumbang Anoi. This
historic longhouse was the site of the famous meeting of headhunters
called by the Dutch over 100 years ago. Later travel to Tumbang Korik,
where traditional owners of the longhouse will welcome you to stay.

Remain
a full day here, getting to know the village and its
surroundings, and join the villagers in their pastimes.

5:
DOWNSTREAM KAHAYAN RIVER,
PALANGKARAYA (B)
A
full
day klotok and speedboat journey back to Palangkaraya along the
Kahayan River.Transport provided to hotel or airport. Why not enjoy a
swim, massage and comfortable night in the
Kalimantan Meeting Centre (additional cost) before your return to the
urban jungle.

Speedboat
journey along the Katingan to Tumbang Manggu village, to a
new longhouse of traditional construction, built by traditional Dayak
elder, Bp Syaer Sua, whose forebears originated from the ancient,
remote Gagu longhouse, which will become the focal point of our
adventure.

KATINGAN RIVER, GAGU LONGHOUSE (BLD)
Truck,
trek and canoe your way to the upper reaches of the Katingan
River to discover the isolated longhouse of Gagu, where life and time
seemingly stands still.

SURROUNDING KATINGAN RIVER, LONGHOUSE (BLD)
Explore
this unique ancient longhouse and its surroundings. Overnight
in the longhouse and share in the lifestyle and stories of the
community.

Hike
back to Katingan River for your jungle camp overnight.

RIAM MANGKIKIT, KASONGAN, PALANGKARAYA (B)
Canoe
downriver to the rapids of Riam Mangkikit, a holy Kaharingan
site, and continue to Kasongan and return to Palangka Raya by 4WD.
