's Sembakung Wildlife Jungle
Sembakung
Reserve is the most diverse reserve in wildlife and forest of Borneo
Island. Sembakung Park covers an area of 450.000 hectares, and is
remote located in the most north outer region of North
Kalimantan province.
The forest is primary tropical rain forest, with 80.000 hectares of
swamp forest, 120.000 hectares of limestone forest, 120.000 hectares of
lowland rain forest, and 75.000 hectares of montane rain forest, and a
55.000 hectares of shallow water area.
The Fauna of Sembakung Park is
a diverse ecosystem of various forest types including many plant and
tree species, from many wild orchids species, several pitcher plants
species, raflessia flower species,
Dipterocarpus
trees, Ebony trees, and half of the world hard wood tree
species including the ironwood tree.

The
Flora of Sembakung Park is most exciting, and the most
complete of Borneo 's animal species in one location. Under the Mammals
found at Sembakung, some are endangered and only be found at Sembakung
as the Sumatran
Rhinoceros (Dicerorhinus sumatrensis), the Asian Pygmy Elephant (
Elephas maximus, Tembadau Bos javanicus), the Orang-Utan (Pongo
pygmaeus), Bornean Treeshrew (Tupaia longipes), Pig-tailed Macaque (Macaca
nemestrina), Clouded Leopard (Neofelis nebulosa), Marbled Cat
(Pardofelis marmorata), Roundleaf Bat (Hipposideros ridleyi),
Bornean Gibbon (Hylobates muelleri), Small-clawed Otter (Amblonyx
cinereus), Langur (Presbytis hosei), Malayan Sun Bear
(Helarctos malayanus), and reptiles Flat-shelled Turtle (Notochelys
platynota) |
The
Pygmy Elephants and rhinoceroses,
at Kalimantan can only be found at Sembakung Park.
Near
the Mammals also 25 species of dragonflies, 240 species of butterflies
and a diversity of beetles include the rolling leaf can be
found at Semabakung Reserve.
The
Shallow water area is home to many fish species, and still
undiscovered by researchers, the mangrove forest is home to proboscis
monkeys |
Sembakung
Park is mostly unhabitated, but have some villages at the
border sites, with the local tribes of Tidung Tribe and Dayak.
Sembakung is located remote, and various transport facilities are
needed to reach the heart of the reserve, but once in the Park, the
wildlife and nature lover will be get on the highest satisfaction after
the loosing travel hours, which needed the patients and adventures
spirit.
