Karstic Formations
Wehea primary jungle, with giant trees and
endemic flora and is home to many endangered animals species
as clouded leopard, sun bear, Storm's stork,
grizzled langur, Bornean gibbon and orangutan.
The karst peninsula in East Kalimantan is one of
the largest untouched area's of watershed in the world, the
formation of the karstic
outcrops, ist totaly undiscovered, due it's poor infrastructure and
rough terrain. After five years of research and with the help of TNC
(The Nature Conservancy) we now are ready to serve several routes into
the Karst formations. The amazing limestone forest is home to rare
bads, and not to forget orangutans, and other wildlife creatures. The
unique flora and fauna of the limestone forest and karts crops with
beautiful views from the tops, over an unhabitat area covered with an
emerald jungle, explore the caves with historic signs of the
Dayak tribes who may ever habitated the area, can't held an emotional
feeling behind for those with interest in geology.
The Karst of East Kalimantan Province,
Indonesia at the foot of Wehea
Park has an amazing Flora and Fauna, the
Tropical Rain Forest, and low-land rain forest, an inland belt of
gentle limestone walls standing more then a few hundred meters
right in the sky, over ranges of a few kilometers long, and forming one
of the last undiscovered dark jungle's of Borneo.
The wild life is exotic, orangutan, only found at
Sumatra and Borneo, along with the endemic proboscis monkeys, and other
forest denizens including clouded leopard, leaf monkey, macaque,
pangolin anteater, tiny tarsier, lizards, crocodiles, pythons and more
then 600 bird spieces as the most famous Sun Birds, pheasants, Kakatua,
and Hornbills.
The ecological wealth that survive deep within
the Karst limestone forest as one of the last unexplored jungle in
Indonesia, we now can serve for the adventurous travelers. Join

Day 01:
BERAU, MIAU BARU (D)
Upon
Arrival at Berau Airport, meeting service and direct transfer by car
for
about 4 hours to Miau Baru village, to visit the Dayak Kayan and Kenyah
tribe
with the Long Ear lobs and tattoo at the old traditional longhouse,
check in at
guesthouse, in the evening a Dayak ceremony dance can be prepared upon
request.
Day 02:
MIAU BARU, WEHEA RAIN FOREST (BLD)
After
Breakfast, visit the Tropical Forest of 38.000 Hectares Wehea Tropical
Virgin Rain Forest of the Dayak Wehea and Dayak Bahau tribe at Muara
Wahau
area, the diversity of flora and fauna with 60 kinds of tropical rain
forest
trees, and more then 100 wild life species can be found here, as
orangutans,
deer, and many kinds of birds. Lunch en-route, overnight at Jungle Lodge

Day
03: WEHEA JUNGLE ADVENTURE (BLD)
After
Breakfast full day explore the dense jungle and wildlife in all the
diversity of Wehea rain forest, to get a glance of Borneo's ecologic
wealth,
even night jungle treks can be done. overnight at Wehea Jungle Lodge,
for
Dinner and Overnight.
Day 04:
WEHEA, MERABU (BLD)
In
the morning free at leisure until departure time by car drive over a
muddy path to
the main
road connecting us to Merabu village Karst limestone forest, upon
arrival at
Merabu as a a small settlement of about
200 people of the Dayak Lebo tribe, which will host us for the night at
one of
their local houses, Evening a Dance ceremony could be held, Lunch on
the way,
dinner at local house at Merabu.

Day
05: MERABU, KARST CAVE BELOYOT (BLD)
Simple
breakfast by our local host will be prepared,
before we start our trek of about 3 hours, from the village Merabu
located at
the foot of one of the world largest and untouched limestone forest
into the
Karst Mountains to the Beloyot limestone crop, which have several
caves, with
more then 3000 year old Dayak manuscripts, unknown fossils, human
sculpts, and
lakes, Lunch and dinner will be prepared, overnight at Cave
Day
06: BELOYOT, NYADENG LAKE (BLD)
Simple
breakfast at Cave, before we continue trekking
to Nyadeng for about two to 3 hours through untouched limestone forest,
possibility to spot wildlife mammals as several monkey species, birds
and
lizard. Nyadeng is a bright watershed lake of the Karst limestone
mountains,
filling the rivers beyond, we continue to Poyong Crop, which hold a dry
Cave at
about 300 meters above sea level, which give us a nice view over the
limestone
forest, possibility to overnight at the Cave or continue by Canoe to
Merabu
village to overnight at Local house, meals prepared en route.

07: MERABU, BERAU (BL)
Simple
breakfast at Cave or Local house, before we
continue by car over a muddy path passing the primary forest for about
two
hours to the main road which will bring us in about three hours to
Berau
airport, or five hours to Tanjung Batu Harbor where you can connect to
your
next destination. |
