Ohong Creek Wildlife Rainforest
Ohong Creek is a small river stream that runs between two Dayak villages, Tanjung Isuy and Mancong. When you take a canoe ride along the river, you can see various animals such as proboscis monkeys and different types of birds. Along the way, you can also learn about the rich Dayak culture and see their traditional longhouses. This journey takes you to Jempang Lake, which is located near the Mahakam River, offering a unique blend of cultural experiences and wildlife sightings, making it a complete and unforgettable trip.
Ohong Creek is situated close to the large lakes that are part of the Mahakam River system. It is a popular stop for travelers who are heading deeper into the interior. As you cruise through the lakes, you might have the chance to spot freshwater dolphins, which are a rare and exciting sight. Fishermen live in houses that are built on the banks of Lake Semayang, Lake Jempang, and Lake Melintang, and their presence adds to the local charm and cultural richness.
Lake Melintang is a vast lake covering an area of about 10,000 hectares and is located near the village of Melintang.
The area surrounding the lake is visually stunning. One of the unique sights is the buffaloes that are kept in pens built right on the water at Lebak Singkil. These animals often wade through water that is more than a meter deep as they search for food, creating a fascinating and picturesque scene.
Lake Semayang is located on the other side of Lake Melintang and covers an even larger area, about 13,000 hectares.
There are several villages around this lake, and the surrounding area has many beautiful smaller lakes, including Manggah, Barambai, Rabok, Tempatung, Kedang Mubung, Wis, and Siran. Each of these lakes adds to the diverse and scenic landscape of the region.
Lake Melintang is the closest major lake to Muara Muntai, and you have to cross it to reach the Dayak villages of Tanjung Isuy or Mancong.
The lake covers an area close to 10,000 hectares, and many fishermen live along its shores or even on the lake itself. They build their homes using sturdy wooden structures that are supported by piles, creating a unique and traditional way of life that blends seamlessly with the natural environment.
