Muara Muntai Jempang and Semayang Lake Mahakam River

Muara Muntai is situated close to the vast lakes of the Mahakam River, making it a great place for travelers heading deeper into the region. When exploring the lakes by boat, visitors might have the chance to see freshwater dolphins, which are sometimes spotted in these waters. The local fishermen live in their homes, some of which are built on or along the shores of Lake Semayang, Lake Jempang, and Lake Melintang.

Lake Melintang is located near the village of Melintang and spans a massive area of about 10,000 hectares.

The area around the lake is very scenic and offers a unique sight at Lebak Singkil, where buffaloes are kept in pens that are built directly on the water. These animals walk through water that is more than a meter deep in search of food.

Lake Semayang is on the opposite side of Lake Melintang and covers a large area of 13,000 hectares.

Surrounding this lake are several villages. In the nearby area, there are also several smaller and beautiful lakes, including Manggah, Barambai, Rabok, Tempatung, Kedang Mubung, Wis, and Siran.

Lake Melintang is the closest lake to Muara Muntai and is necessary to cross in order to reach the Dayak villages of Tanjung Isuy or Mancong.

It is also home to a large number of fishermen who live along the lake or on its shores. These fishermen have built their sturdy wooden houses on piles that are raised above the water level.
